Beli

he port of Beli is located on the northeastern side of the island of Cres. It is a small harbor intended primarily for small vessels owned by locals. The harbor offers approximately 15 berths for small boats up to 5–6 meters in length. Three mooring lines are available on the outer side of the northern breakwater. The water depth is approximately 3 meters at the southernmost tip of the northern pier, whereas towards the north—near the shore—the depth drops rapidly to less than 1 meter. The harbor is protected only against westerly winds and, to some extent, northerly winds, while remaining exposed to winds from all other directions. Mooring buoys are positioned outside the harbor; the outer ones are spaced widely enough to accommodate vessels up to 12 meters long, while the inner ones are suitable only for vessels up to 7 meters in length. A distinctive feature of Beli is the *maestral* wind; blowing from the south through the channel between the islands of Krk and Cres, it creates waves outside the breakwater and pushes vessels moored to lines or buoys towards the north. It is also possible to moor alongside the head of the southern breakwater, though this spot is usually occupied by tourist boats arriving from the island of Krk. The harbor area features a small shop and a newsstand where tickets can be purchased for transport from the harbor up to the village of Beli, located above. There are several taverns in the harbor area. The nearest gas station is in the town of Krk, a 12-nautical-mile voyage away.
