The island of Palagruža is the most remote Croatian island. It is as much as 40 nmi to the nearest larger island on the Croatian side. The island lies in the open sea, where high waves rise quickly with every strong wind. The boat can be anchored on the south side of the island, directly in front of the sandy beach. When sailing near the island, we have to be careful about several things. Some rise above sea level, while others are always below it. If we sail towards the anchorage from the west, we must pay attention to two ridges, i.e. Pupak and Vilici. If we sail between the islands of Mala Palagruža and Palagruža, we must pay attention to the cher, which is on the northern side of Palagruža. When sailing from the eastern side of Mala Palagruža, we must pay attention to the ridges of Pupak, Kamik and Baba. We can anchor in front of the beach on the sandy bottom, where the anchor holds well. Anchoring is not recommended in case of southerly winds. We also do not recommend staying overnight if you are not sure of a favorable weather forecast. The anchorage is protected from northerly winds.
