Svitnja Vela

Svitnja Vela bay is on the north side of the island of Vis, just in front of the port. It is well protected from south and west winds. The bay is not protected from tramontana and bora (NE wind). In case of a forecast of a storm or a strong bora (NE wind), we must leave the bay in time. We can anchor at depths between 2 and 12 m. The bottom in the middle of the bay is sandy and in parts overgrown with sea grass. In the sandy part, the anchor holds well. Towards the shore the bottom is rocky and the anchor in this part does not hold well. It is covered only with a thin layer of sand. There is no supply in the bay. The nearest restaurant is in the old fortress Sveti Juraj, which stands on a hill next to the bay.
